Hydraulic Motor Maintenance
Refer to Figure 4-1:
Hydraulic motor (#10) will need to be removed from motor
housing (#14) to lubricate motor output shaft (#9) and
when servicing the motor.
Hydraulic Motor Removal
Refer to Figure 4-1:
The Post Hole Digger should be hooked-up to a tractor
with its hitch plate and auger laying down on the ground
as shown in Figure 4-1.
1. Park tractor and Post Hole Digger on a flat, level,
solid surface. Ensure there is plenty of backup room
to lower the loader arms while backing-up to lay
down the auger.
2. Back-up while lowering the loader arms to lay the
auger onto the ground with the hitch rotated
horizontally as shown.
3. Stop backing-up once the auger is laying on the
ground. Continue to lower the loader arms until they
are fully down.
4. Shut tractor down according to
5. Disconnect hoses (#6A & #6B) from the loader.
6. Support motor housing (#14) on an approximately
4" (10 cm) high block (#11).
7.
Remove auger from output drive shaft (#7). Refer to
“Auger Installation and Removal”
8. Remove hoses (#6A & #6B) from adapters
(#5A & #5B).
9. Remove adapters (#5A & #5B) from elbows
(#4A & #4B).
10. Remove elbows (#4A & #4B) from ports (A & B).
11. Remove nuts (#13), lock washers (#12), and
bolts (#8) from output housing (#1).
12. Be sure to catch all oil draining out of motor
housing (#14) in a catch pan.
13. Slide motor (#10) from motor housing (#14).
14. Wipe interior of motor housing (#14) clean with a rag.
15. Remove hex socket bolts (#3) and lock washers (#2).
16. Separate output housing (#1) from motor (#10).
17. Store removed hardware in a safe location for
reassembly.
18. Dispose of oil in an environmentally safe manner.
IMPORTANT:
Collect and dispose all oil spills and
leaks in an environmentally safe manner.
NOTE:
Hydraulic oil will collect inside motor housing
(#14) and drain out through the drain hole located
just above the flange. Place an approved oil catch
pan under the flange and drain hole located just
above the flange before removing elbows (#4).

Hydraulic Motor Installation
Refer to Figure 4-1:
The Post Hole Digger should be hooked-up to a tractor
with its hitch plate (#15) and motor housing (#14) laying
down on the ground as shown. Hydraulic hoses must be
disconnected from the loader’s duplex outlet.
1. Lubricate motor output shaft (#9). Refer to
“Hydraulic Motor Output Shaft”
on page 28 for
detailed instructions.
2. Reattach hydraulic motor (#10) to drive housing (#1)
with two 1/2"-13 x 1 1/4" GR5 socket bolts (#3) and
lock washers (#2). Tighten bolts to the correct torque.
3. Attach output housing (#1) to motor housing (#14)
with eight 5/16-18 x 1 1/4" GR 5 bolts (#8), lock
washers (#12), and nuts (#13). Tighten nuts to the
correct torque.
4. Insert motor (#10) into motor housing (#14).
5. Attach elbow (#4A) to motor port (A) and elbow (#4B)
to motor port (B).
6. Attach adapters (#5A & #5B) to elbow (#4A & #4B).
7.
Attach hydraulic hose (#6A) with male coupler (#16)
to elbow (#4A).
8. Attach hydraulic hose (#6B) with female coupler
(#17) to elbow (#4B).
9. Tighten elbows (#4A & #4B), adapters (#5A & #5B),
and hydraulic hoses (#6A & #6B).
10. Lubricate output drive shaft (#7). Refer to
on page 28 for detailed instructions.
11. Reattach auger to output drive shaft (#7). Refer to
“Auger Installation and Removal”
on page 12 for
detailed instructions.
12. Reconnect hydraulic hoses (#6A & #6B) to the loader
couplers.
