9 - Communication protocol
9.1 Disclaimer
This chapter provides the information required to control the HP-01
Magnetometer via the fiber optic connected to a PC and by means of user’s
own PC software applications. Narda STS s.r.l supports the correctness of
the information only, and disclaim for any consequence the use of such
information may cause to anybody. The inclusion of Narda’s
communication protocol into User’s or third party software is entirely at the
User’s risks and responsibility. In no way Narda STS s.r.l shall be liable for
damages of any kind consequent to the use of the information provided in
this chapter.
9.2 Protocol
The serial communication between PC and Narda HP-01 Magnetometer is
the USB standard (via the USB-OC Optical Converter).
Specifications:

Rate 115200 bps
•
No Parity
•
Data: 8 bits
•
Start: 1 bit
•
Stop: 1 bit
The commands are composed by an ASCII string delimited by
“#” (0x23)
and “ * ” (0x2A)
Every command must start with the header
H1 .
The answer can be either in ASCII or Binary, according to the command
sent.
The HP-01 must be switched on in PC mode in order the
communication protocol to work properly.
This is the same standard mode used with the provided software.
If the Magnetometer will continue sending measurement data
independently by receiving commands, it is likely that it was switched
on in 8053B mode (this is the way the probe communicates with the
optional handheld field meter).
When the unit is switched on in 8053B mode but it fails to establish a
communication with the portable field meter, it turns automatically to
PC mode.
Please, push the POWER button briefly (before the Power-on LED
turns orange) to switch the HP-01 on in PC mode.
Push and release the button to switch the unit off.
To force hardware switching off, press and hold the button for, at
least, 10 seconds.
To save battery, the HP-01 turns automatically off 10 minutes after
last received command.
HP-01 is off during battery charge.
