update system software. To access configuration management, select it from the Service Menu. (Refer to
figure 4-40 for compact flash insertion instructions. For compact flash card part numbers refer to
paragraph 1.7 Equipment Required But Not Supplied.)
NOTE
A terminal device can be used to verify there is files located on the
compact flash. With the compact flash inserted in the TRC899, turn on
power and at the terminal device type Dir <Enter>. (The Dir command
lists all files located in a directory, if name is left blank it will show all
directories and files located on the compact flash.) See appendix E for
terminal device operation information.
Archive to CF.
Archive to compact flash can be used to create a backup copy of the system
configuration. This backup copy can be used to later restore system configuration or download system
configuration to other installations (i.e., OEM installation of same equipment model(s) during aircraft
production).
Retrieve from CF.
Retrieve from compact flash allows you to copy a previously saved system
configuration from a compact flash to your system.
Restore Factory Defaults.
Restore factory defaults changes system configuration to factory defaults (i.e.,
ARINC 429 ports to none, Heading source to synchro compass, etc.). Restore to factory defaults will not
restore original system software version it will only restore configuration settings.
Software Update
. Software update allows an authorized L-3 Avionics Systems representative to update
the system software in the field. The download software does not reside within the SKY899; it will be
located on the compact flash that contains the new system software version. The representative must
reference the appropriate service bulletin for software update instructions.
