mTenna Plus and mTenna Select Installation Guide
12.2.2 Align BUC compression points
To align the 1 dB compression points of each BUC, commission each ODU with the network operator. This activity
requires that each ASM can obtain line-of-sight to the satellite, and the installer can contact the NOC for 1 dB
compression measurements while accessing the ASM web-based user interface.
✎
Ensure the ODU remains stationary during each compression test.
1.
Prevent the modem from rebooting by opening telnet into the iDirect Falcon interface and executing the
following command (refer to modem documentation if necessary):
beamselector lock
2.
Obtain P1dB measurement of an ASM.
a.
Navigate the vessel or ASMs so that the ASM under measurement has line-of-sight of the satellite and
achieves PL sync.
b.
Physically cover the ASMs with boxes or other RF-blocking material so that the ASM under measurement
has the best SNR of all ASMs.
✎
If physical blockage of the other ASMs is not possible, you will need to execute more software
commands to force transmit from the desired antenna. See Appendix A for this information.
c.
Confirm that transmit is occurring from the desired ASM using the GUI, or note that the LED for the
desired ASM on the mTenna Select should be green while the others are yellow.
d.
Set RF transmit frequency for the ASM, as given by the NOC, for the ASM by navigating to
Pointing >
Commissioning Mode > Select TX Frequency.
e.
Execute the P1dB testing with the NOC engineer using the iDirect X7 user interface to command transmit
from the modem.
3.
Record the P1dB measurement of each ASM in the following table.
ASM

1

4
4.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each ASM.
