Cleaning and care
WARNING!
• Switch the kettle off (lift it off the power base), unplug the power base from
the wall socket and let the kettle cool down completely before cleaning.
• Never immerse the kettle, cord or power base in water. All connections
and sockets must be kept dry.
• To prevent damage to the kettle, do not use scouring pads, steel wool,
solvents or harsh chemical or alkaline cleaning agents.
The outside and inside surfaces of your kettle only require occasional wiping with
a damp cloth and mild, non-abrasive household detergent, if necessary, then
wipe dry. If using detergent inside the kettle, rinse it thoroughly afterwards to
remove all traces of the detergent.
Removal of mineral deposits
From time to time, you may need to clean off any mineral deposits (limescale) left
by water inside your kettle to keep it operating efficiently. Scale build-up will cause
the element to overheat, reducing its working life. It may also cause the safety cut-
out to operate prematurely, switching the kettle off before the water boils.
As the element is mounted beneath the kettle, there are no awkward nooks and
crannies for the scale to get a foothold. It can build up only on the walls and floor
of the kettle, where it can be seen and dealt with.
To minimise scale build-up:
• Empty the kettle after each use; do not allow water to stand in the kettle
overnight; use filtered water instead of ordinary tap water.
• Descale the kettle regularly using a proprietary brand of descaler suitable for
use in plastic-bodied products. In areas of very hard water descaling may be
necessary as often as once a month.
• When descaling, follow the instructions on the packet of descaler. When
descaling has finished, empty the kettle and rinse it out several times with
fresh water, then fill with fresh water, boil, and discard the water. This should
ensure that no chemical residues are left in the kettle.
Cleaning the filter
Clean the filter regularly to ensure an easy flow of water. Take out the filter from in
front of the spout and under running water, rub the filter gently with your fingers.
Be careful not to use anything that could tear or damage the filter when cleaning.
Descale the filter at regular intervals. Soak it in a descaling solution, rub off any
residues gently with your fingers and then rinse the filter thoroughly.
