▶ Fit the line spool again. See section 5.1.6. If you are
replacing the complete line spool, ignore points 3-6.
9.2 Grinding the safety hood blade
The safety hood blade can become blunt over time. When
you notice this, undo the screw holding the safety hood
blade on the safety hood.
Clamp the blade in a vise. Sharpen the blade with a fl at fi
le and make sure that the angle of the cutting edge is not
altered in the process. File in one direction only.
9.3 Maintenance of the air fi lter
Soiled air fi lters reduce the engine output by supply too
little air to the carburetor. Regular checks are there
-
fore essential. The air fi lter should be checked after
every 25 hours of use and cleaned if necessary. If the air
contains a lot of dust, the air fi lter should be checked
more frequently.
▶ Remove the air fi lter cover (Fig. 10a).
▶ Remove the fi lter element (Fig. 10b/10c).
▶ Clean the fi lter element by tapping it or blowing it.
▶ Assemble in reverse order.
Important: Never clean the air fi lter with petrol
or infl ammable solvents.
9.4 Maintenance of the spark plug
Spark plug sparking gap = 0.6mm. Tighten the spark plug
with a torque of 12 to 15 Nm. Check the spark plug for
dirt and grime after 10 hours of operation and if neces
-
sary clean it with a copper wire brush. Thereafter service
the spark plug after every 50 hours of operation.
▶ Pull out the spark plug connector (20) (Fig. 11a).
▶ Remove the spark plug (Abb. 11b) with the supplied
spark plug wrench (27).
▶ Assemble in reverse order.
9.5 Carburetor settings
Important. Settings on the carburetor may only be made by
authorized customer service personnel.
The air fi lter cover must be removed before any work on
the carburetor, as shown in Figures 10a-10c.
Setting the throttle cable:
If the maximum speed of the equipment drops over time and
you have ruled out all the other possible causes listed
in section 12 „Troubleshooting“, it may be necessary to
adjust the throttle cable. First of all check whether
the carburetor opens fully when the throttle handle is
pressed right through. This is the case if the carburetor
slide (Fig. 13a) is completely opened when the throttle is
fully activated. Figure 13a shows the correct setting. If
the carburetor slide is not completely open, it must be
adjusted. The following steps are required to adjust the
throttle cable:
▶ Undo the lock nut (Fig. 13b/Item C) a few turns.
▶ Undo the adjusting screw (Fig. 13b/Item D) until the
carburetor slide is completely open when the throttle
is fully activated, as shown in Figure 13a.
▶ Retighten the lock nut.
9.6 Setting the idling speed
Note! Set the idling speed when the equipment is
warm.
The idling speed may only be adjusted by an authorized
service center. The starting speed of the cutting tool
must be at least 1.25 times the idling speed.
9.7 Applying grease to the gear unit
After every 20 hours of use add a little gear grease (ap
-
prox. 10 g.) at the lubrication nipple (C) (Fig. 7c).
9.8 Changing the oil and checking the
oil level (before using the equipment)
The motor oil is best changed when the motor is at work
-
ing temperature. In this connection, please also read the
service information.
▶ Keep a suitable, leak-tight receptacle within reach
when performing an oil change.
▶ Open the oil filler plug (Fig. 14a-14b / Item 28).
▶ Drain the used oil into a suitable receptacle by tilt
-
ing the engine.
▶ Fill in engine oil (15W40) up to the top mark (Max.) on
the oil dip stick (Fig. 14b).
▶ Dispose of the used oil properly by taking it to a col
-
lection point. Most filling stations, repair garag
-
es, and recycling centers will accept used oil free of
charge. Do not add antifreeze or transmission fluid to
the used oil. Keep used oil out of the reach of children
and away from sources of ignition.
10. CLEANING, STORAGE AND
TRANSPORT
10.1 Cleaning
▶ Keep the handles free of oil so that you can maintain
a firm grip.
▶ Clean the equipment as required with a damp cloth and,
