farthestfromtheexit.Ifmorethanonesleepingareaexists,

Locateadditionalalarmstomonitoranystairwayasstairwaysact
likechimneysforsmokeandheat.

Locateatleastonealarmoneveryfloorlevel(Image1B).
•
LocateanalarmineverySleepingRoom.
•
Locateanalarmineveryroomwhereelectricalappliancesare
operated(i.e.portableheatersorhumidifiers).

Locateanalarmineveryroomwheresomeonesleepswiththe
doorclosed.Thecloseddoormaypreventanalarmnotlocated
inthatroomfromwakingthesleeper.

Smoke,heat,andcombustionproductsrisetotheceilingand
spreadhorizontally.Mountingthesmokealarmontheceilingin
thecenteroftheroomplacesitclosesttoallpointsintheroom.
Ceilingmountingispreferredinordinaryresidentialconstruction.

Whenmountinganalarmontheceiling,locateitataminimum
of10cm(4”)fromthesidewall(Image2A).

Whenmountingthealarmonthewall,useaninsidewallwith
thetopedgeofthealarmataminimumof10cm(4”)anda
maximumof30.5cm(12”)belowtheceiling(Image2A).

Putsmokealarmsatbothendsofabedroomhallwayorlarge
roomifthehallwayorroomismorethan9.1m(30’)long.
