Develop and practice a plan of escape!

Installandmaintainfireextinguishersoneverylevelofthehome
andinthekitchen,basementandgarage.Knowhowtousethe
fireextinguisherpriortoanemergency.

Makeafloorplanindicatingalldoorsandwindowsandatleast
two(2)escaperoutesfromeachroom.Second-storeywindows
mayneedanescapeladder.

Haveafamilymeetinganddiscussyourescapeplan,showing
everyonewhattodoincaseoffire.

Determineaplaceoutsideyourhomewhereyouallcanmeetifa
fireoccurs.
•
FamiliarizeeveryonewiththesoundofthesmokeandCOalarm
andtrainthemtoleaveyourhomewhentheyhearit.

Practiceafiredrillatleasteverysixmonths,includingfiredrillsat
night.Ensurethatsmallchildrenhearthealarmandwakewhen
itsounds.Theymustwakeupinordertoexecutetheescape
plan.Practiceallowsalloccupantstotestyourplanbeforean
emergency.Youmaynotbeabletoreachyourchildren.Itis
importanttheyknowwhattodo.
