Regular maintenance
6.1
General points
The pump and the entire system must be checked and serviced at regular intervals. The maintenance period is
determined by the manufacturer and applies for the general usage conditions. Consult the manufacturer is using
aggressive and/or abrasive pumping media since the period may be shorter in these cases.
The following points must be taken into account:
• The operating instructions must be available to the maintenance staff and be heeded. Only maintenance work
and measures described here may be carried out.
• All maintenance, inspection and cleaning work on the pump and system must be carried out with the greatest
care, at a safe workplace and by trained specialists. The necessary personal protective equipment must be
worn. The pump must be disconnected from the mains power supply for all work. Unintentional switch-on must
be prevented. In addition, all work in reservoirs and/or tanks must observe the respective protective measures
in accordance with BGV/GUV.
• Lifting devices that are in a perfect technical condition and have been officially approved must be used to raise
and lower the pump with weights over 50kg.
Convince yourself that the lifting gear, ropes and safety devices for the hand winch are in a perfect technical
condition. Work may only begin when the lifting gear is technically OK. There is a danger to life without these
checks!
• Electrical work on the pump and the system must be carried out by specialists. The Chapter “Explosion
protection” in the Enclosure must be heeded for explosion-proof pumps!
• Naked flames, lights and smoking are prohibited when using highly flammable solvents and cleaning agents.
• Pumps that circulate or are in contact with hazardous media have to be decontaminated. You must also make
sure that no hazardous gases form or exist.
• Make sure that the required tools and material are available. Tidiness and cleanness guarantee safe and perfect
work at the pump. Always remove used cleaning materials and tools from the pump after work. Store all materials
and tools in the designated place.
• Operating media (e. g. oils, lubricants etc.) must be collected in suitable tanks and disposed of according to the
regulations (in accordance with directive 75/439/EEC and decrees in accordance with §§5a, 5b AbfG [German
Waste Law]). Appropriate protective clothing must be worn during cleaning and maintenance work. This must be
disposed of according to waste key TA 524 02 and EC directive 91/689/EEC. Only the lubricants recommended
by the manufacturer may be used. Oils and lubricants must not be mixed. Only use genuine spare parts from
the manufacturer.
A test run or functional test on the pump may only take place under the general operating conditions.
Oil grade: biodegradable white oil.
Pay attention to the following when using white oil:
• Only operating fluids from the same manufacturer may be used for topping up and/or refilling
• Pumps that have previously been operated with other operating fluids have to be cleaned thoroughly before
they can be operated with white oil.
