OEM NOTICE TO ALL BOAT BUILDERS AND RIGGERS
KEM EQUIPMENT IS ISSUING THIS NOTICE
HIGH PERFORMANCE LT4 INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS:
Low Restriction Exhaust:
For maximum power and efficiency, a low restriction
exhaust should be fitted. Anything such as baffled through holes, mufflers, or
turndowns combine to increase restriction and back pressure (measured in psi).
Any combination of restrictions that cause back pressure over 6 psi at Wide
Open Throttle (WOT) will void the engine warranty. By contacting our Parts
department, you can purchase approved mufflers, turndowns and thru holes for
Kodiak Marine LT4 engines. 503-692-5012
Low Restriction Intake:
Installation of the LT4 requires 304 square inches of
inlet air to the engine compartment. “It is recommended that the air flow path at
the air inlet not be obstructed causing loss of pressure or flow disturbance. In
addition, the intake of air must avoid the suction of air coming from hot spot
areas inside the engine bay and water ingestion. “Increased intake restriction
and/or inlet air temp will result in the degradation of engine power.” – General
Motors
High Quality Fuel:
The LT4 is designed to run on up to a maximum of 10%
ethanol. The LT4 engine was calibrated to run on gasoline with an octane
ranking of 92 or higher. Using fuel with a ranking less than 92 will result in
decreased performance. For the best possible performance, run a grade of fuel
with 93 or higher octane and less than 10% ethanol. Make sure your gasoline is
free of contaminants, debris, or water.
