Coolant Filling Procedure for the 6.2L LT4 GM engine
A heat exchanger and engine block coolant fill and air evacuation tool must
be used to purge the air lock from the Direct Injected GM engines during
filling or the refilling of coolant. The tool must also be used for filling or
refilling of the intercooler coolant.
These are separate systems.
The
procedure for filling the intercooler system is nearly same as for the heat
exchanger/engine system outlined below.
Procedure for filling or refilling the engine closed coolant system:
To fill or re-fill the engine and heat exchanger with coolant, you must be sure
the coolant system is leak free at all hose and fitting locations. The filling with
coolant and purging of air from the engine is done with vacuum rather than by
pressure. If there is a leak present in the plumbing of the closed coolant
system, the applied vacuum will not pull the coolant into the engine. Use the
detailed instructions that come with the coolant fill and air evacuation tool for the
filling and purging of either coolant system.
Failure to fill the engine o r i n t e r c o o l e r properly with a Coolant Air
Evacuation kit may void warranty.
Snap On Model #SVTSRAD262A is an easy to use air evacuation kit with easy to
follow instructions included. It can be purchased from your local Kodiak Marine
Dealer or order direct from KEM Equipment.
