1.
Remove the spark plug cap.
2.
Remove dirt from the base of the spark plug.
3.
Remove the spark plug with a spark plug spanner.
4.
Clean with a steel brush. Replace the spark plug if the
insulator is damaged.
5.
Measure the spark plug clearance with a feeler gauge. The
spark plug clearance should be 0.7–0.8 mm. Adjust, if
necessary, by carefully bending the electrode.
6.
Inspect the spark plug washer and replace if necessary.
Screw in the spark plug by hand as far as it goes. Then
tighten with a spark plug spanner. A new spark plug must
be tightened an additional ½ turn after the washer has
made contact, a used spark plug a 1/8–1/4 turn.
IMPORTANT!
The spark plug must be screwed in properly, otherwise it can get very hot and damage the engine.
Only use recommended spark plugs or the equivalent. Spark plugs with the incorrect temperature range
can damage the engine.
Spark arrester (optional)
The spark arrester must be maintained at least every 100
working hours to function correctly.
1.
Unscrew the two nuts M8 (5) and remove the muffler
(4) from the engine.
2.
Unscrew the four screws M5 (2) from the muffler cover
(1) and take off the cover.
3.
Unscrew the screw M4 (6) from the spark arrester (3)
and remove it from the muffler.
4.
Brush coke deposits off the spark arrester.
5.
Replace the spark arrester by following the above
instructions in the reverse order.
WARNING!
The muffler gets very hot during operation and remains hot
for a long time after the engine has stopped. Do not touch
the muffler – risk of burns. Allow the engine to cool before
carrying out maintenance work.
IMPORTANT!
Take care not to damage the mesh on the spark arrester.
Never use a damaged spark arrester.
