The term ‘waterproof’ applies only to brand new watches. The waterproofness
of the watch is tested according to DIN 8310. ‘atm’ or ‘bar’ is the unit for the
test pressure and must not be confused with the diving depth. When swimming
or jumping into the water, higher pressure may develop in the short term and
exceed the limits guaranteed for your watch. If in doubt, please remove your
watch first. Watertightness is not a permanent property. The seals of the watch
age and become brittle over time. Heat, cold and cosmetics accelerate this
process. Never enter a steam bath or a sauna with your watch.
Damage to the glass, crown, windingshaft or seal of the watch usually leads
to the loss of waterproofing, because moisture penetrating into the watch
destroys the movement and the dial.
The watertightness specified applies only when the crown is pressed in. Always
screw down the crowns completely. Never pull the crown out or press the
pusher of the watch when the watch is under water.
