8.8 Steering

8.8.1 To examine and adjust the steering cables

The tension of the steering cables can decrease after a

period of time. This causes the adjustment of the

steering to change.
Examine and adjust the steering as follows:

CAUTION: Do not tighten the cables too much.

1. Do a check that the steering cables can be manually

moved 5 mm up or down on the steering collar.

2. Loosen the locknuts if the steering cables are too

loose.

3. Hold the cable with a wrench and tighten the

adjuster nuts.

4. Examine the cable tension.
5. Tighten the locknuts when the cable tension is

correct.

8.8.2 To replace the steering cable

B

C

1. Disconnect the adjuster nuts from the steering

cables (A). See

To replace the steering cable on

page 44. Hold the cables with a wrench when the

cables are attached to make sure that the cables do

not twist.

2. Remove the tunnel cover. See

To remove the

covers on page 16.

3. Disconnect the steering cable front connection (B) at

the steering chain (C).

4. Attach the new cable to the used cable if the used

cables are not cut.

5. Pull out the used cables from the frame to put the

new cables in the frame.

6. Make sure that the steering wheel is in the center

position when the rear wheels are in center position.

If not, reset the chain on the steering sprocket on the

steering column or adjust the steering cable.

8.8.3 To remove the steering cable pulley

1. Remove the tunnel cover. See

To remove the

covers on page 16

2. Remove the nuts on the rear end of the steering

cables.

3. Remove the screw (A) and the washer (B).
