Update via FOTA client
Unlike apps, firmware is permanent software
that resides in a computer’s read-only memory.
Firmware operates in the background and makes
sure the hardware runs properly.
Manufacturers may update firmware to address
problems and improve functionality. Firmware
Over-The-Air, or “FOTA,” is a way to wirelessly
update the firmware of a mobile device by the
manufacturer. The XT3 supports Firmware Over
The Air (FOTA) wireless updating.
To see if a new firmware version is available for
your XT3, go to
Tools
, tap on
Settings
>
System
and then tap
Advanced
. Tap on
System Update
to see which OS image version
is currently installed, and if there is a newer
version available.
If a newer version is available, tap
P
to instruct
the XT3 to download only over a Wi-Fi
connection if you want to avoid wireless data
charges. Then tap on the appropriate file and the
FOTA Client will begin downloading the update.
Downloading the file will take several minutes.
Once the client has been downloaded, a pop-up
will appear indicating that the device will restart.
It will also recommend that you first backup your
data.
If ready to proceed with the update, tap
CONTINUE
. When the update is completed, the
FOTA Client will display the newly installed
version, and indicate whether there are newer
versions to download.
