Example 2: Configuring a Wireless Hop From a Remote LAN
In this example, there are two access points in the 802.11b network: the root access
point is connected to the primary LAN and the other access point is connected to a
secondary (remote) LAN. Each access point only has one 802.11b radio. Since the
access point on the secondary LAN only has one radio, it can only form the wireless
hop to the root access point; it cannot support wireless end devices
The advantages and disadvantages of using this configuration are listed below.
Advantages Disadvantages
Does not require WEP encryption. Wireless end devices cannot communicate
through the access point on the secondary
LAN.
Supports wired end devices on the secondary
(remote) LAN.
To configure the access points
1. Configure the root access point.
a. From the IEEE 802.11b Radio-A menu, enter an SSID (Network Name) for this
radio, which will match the SSID (Network name) of the WAP’s IEEE 802.11b
Radio-A.
b. From the IEEE 802.11b Radio-A menu, choose Wireless Bridging and set the
Node Type field to Master and set the Wireless Hops field to Enabled.
2. Configure the access point on the secondary LAN.
a. From the IEEE 802.11b Radio-A menu, enter the SSID (Network Name) for
this radio, which will match the SSID (Network name) of the root access point’s
IEEE 802.11b Radio-A.
b. From the IEEE 802.11b Radio-A menu, choose Wireless Bridging and set the
Node Type field to Station.
c. In the Spanning Tree screen, set the

Root Priority field to 0.
•
Secondary LAN Bridge Priority field to a value other than zero. Usually,
you should set this parameter to 1.

Secondary LAN Flooding field to Enabled.
