Product Safety Information
Intended Use:
These DC Electric Tools are designed for assembly applications requiring precise torque control,
accuracy, consistency and repeatability and are recommended for unique and/or critical
tightening requirements. Use only with Ingersoll Rand IC family of DC Controllers.
For additional information refer to Product Safety Information Manual 16573685.
Manuals can be downloaded from www.ingersollrandproducts.com
ESD and Grounding Information
QE2 tools are ESD safe tools with grips made from a static dissipative material. The grips will bleed
static charge to ground and will not build a static charge. You should take additional ESD precautions if
you are handling extremely sensitive components.
Refer to the “Grounding Instruction Section”, found in the Ingersoll Rand DC Electric Tool Controller
manuals and to those found here in this manual.
CAUTION
Do not allow chemicals such as acetone benzene, thinner, ketone, trichloroethylene to come
in contact with the housing, as damage will result.
Have the tool serviced at least once a year.
Keep the exterior of the unit clean and dry.
Lubrication
All lubrication should be made only by authorized trained personnel; when such service is required for
these tools (at each 150,000 cycles), locate the nearest Ingersoll Rand Authorized Service Center.
Installation
Cable Connection:
GEA40-C0RD-*M tool cables can be used with QE2, QE4, QE6 & QE8 tools. CPS2-C0RD-*M tool cables
can only be used with QE2 tools.
Before attaching or removing QE4, QE6 or QE8 tool cables with 90° strain reliefs, unsnap the 90° fitting
allowing the cable to rotate freely inside strain relief.
Torque Arm Mounting:
It is recommended to use a torque reaction arm, bar, flange or fixture for applications where torque is
higher than 4 Nm for inline tool configurations, 10 Nm for pistol tool configurations, or where reaction
force on operator is higher than 223 N for angle tool configurations. For QE2 tools, mount the Torque
Arm tool clamp over the larger diameter section of the Suspension Nut.
Routine Maintenance
General Instructions:
Maintenance and repairs should be made only by authorized trained personnel; when such service or
repair is required for these tools, locate the nearest Ingersoll Rand Authorized Service Center.
NOTICE
For Authorized Trained Personnel:
For ‘Assembly/Disassembly’ and other maintenance instructions regarding these products, see
Maintenance Information Form 16609703 (QE2), Form 16575151 (QE4), Form 16575169 (QE6) and
Form 16575177 (QE8) located at www.ingersollrandproducts.com or contact the nearest
Ingersoll Rand Office or Distributor.
Tool Use
To switch the direction of rotation on the QE2 tools, press and release the reverse button once. A
blue light above the reverse button will appear while the QE2 tool is in reverse mode. To resume the
forward direction, press and release the toggle button once more. The blue light will turn off while the
QE2 tool is in forward mode.

Adjustments
WARNING
Disconnect the tool from the power source before making any adjustments, changing
accessories, or storing the tool. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting
the tool accidentally.
CAUTION
Grasping or handling Angle Assembly Attachment with a Spanner Wrench or an adjustable
wrench is recommended. To avoid damage to the tool NEVER grasp or handle tool with or
using a vise. When making adjustments to the tool’s attachment(s), ALWAYS hold the tool
using the Spanner holes (or by its flats) to tighten or loosen the Coupling Nut(s).
Angle Assembly Attachment Orientation
The Motor Housing Assembly is keyed or splined on its output end enabling the Angle Assembly
Attachment to be positioned to the desired radial location. To reposition the Angle Assembly
Attachment, proceed as follows:
For QE2
1. Lightly clamp the Angle Head Housing in a vise, and loosen the Coupling Nut with a Spanner
Wrench.
2. Unscrew the Coupling Nut and pull Angle Head Assembly away from Motor Housing Assembly.
Remove the Housing Lock Spacer from the Angle Head Assembly or the Gear Case. On the A1 and
A2 angle heads, also remove the aluminum spacer.
3. Orient and insert the Housing Lock Spacer into the Angle Head Housing with the tabs on the
Housing Lock Spacer keyed into one of the six slot orientations in the Angle Head Housing. On the
A1 and A2 angle heads, also slide the aluminum spacer over the hex. pinion shaft.
4. Orient and insert the Angle Head Assembly, with Housing Lock Spacer, into the Motor Housing
Assembly with the tabs on the Housing Lock Spacer keyed into one of the two slot orientations in
the Motor Housing Assembly.
5. If reposition is needed, reorient the Housing Lock Spacer in the Angle Head Housing and/or Motor
Housing Assembly to achieve rotational increments of 15°.
6. Torque Coupling Nut to 15-18 lb.ft (20-25 Nm).
For QE4
1. Clamp the Square Drive or the Quick Change bit of the Angle Head Assembly in a vise, and loosen
the Coupling Nut from the assembly with a Spanner Wrench.
For QE6/QE8
1. Using a spanner wrench or an adjustable wrench, firmly grasp the Gear Case of the Motor Housing
Assembly and loosen the Coupling Nut from the Assembly.
For QE4, QE6 and QE8
2. Pull Angle Assembly Attachment away from Motor Housing Assembly.
3. Orient Attachment to desired position; then push Angle Assembly Attachment back into Motor
Housing Assembly.
4. Torque Coupling Nut to 45-50 lb.ft (61-68 Nm).
