“
SECURE DISABLE” FAULT – GENERAL INFORMATION
What is the “Secure Disable “mode?
The secure disable mode is a mode that is selected to protect the workers from any unattended restart of the
compressor.
When the secure disable mode is selected (phase II and III machines), the end-user must start/stop the
compressor as described down below :
•To enable & start the compressor : first 8.09 turned to “Enable” (pull E-stop) then 8.02 turned to
“Active” (switch toggle switch to “start”)
•To stop & disable the compressor : first 8.02 turned to “Inactive” (switch toggle switch to “stop”
)
then
8.09 turned to “Disable” (push E-stop)
The drive trips on “Secure Disable” any time one of this two procedures is no followed : 8.09 turned to
“Enable” while 8.02 is already “active” / 8.09 turned to “Disable” while 8.02 is still “active”
How to reset a “Secure Disable” Fault
The “Secure Disable fault can not be reset automatically by the drive. Has to be done manually, with the
following procedure :
- switch toggle switch to stop
- push and pull the E-stop once
In practice, what can lead the drive to trip on “secure disable”?
Three situations that are to be considered in accordance with the design of the product :
•E-stop is hit while the compressor is running
Î
drive trips once the E-stop is pushed. The VSD will show a
“Secure Disable” alarm.
•Power outage that lasts more than 200ms
Î
trips once the power comes back if the toggle switch is still on
the “start” position. The VSD will show a “Secure Disable” alarm.
•The “secure disable fault” is triggered right after a resetable fault, when the drive tries to reset the fault. The
VSD will show a “Secure Disable” alarm.
Other situations that are to be considered as a malfunction/problem:
•Defective E-stop
Î
the state of the output signal coming from the E-stop changes “by itself”, without
touching the red button (mechanical problem within the E-stop)
•Wiring issues or loose connections within the drive (harness connected to the drive) or with the E-stop (8.09
turns to 0 any time the SDI1 input is no longer connected to the +24V supply)
•Vibrations related issue (relays in the drive opens due to vibrations) – Contact Ingersoll Rand.
