14. Check the stop finger height to make sure it is
adjusted correctly to hold the bobbin basket
and allow for proper thread escapement.
The stop finger should be up against the solid
machined edge to support the finger so it
doesn’t spin out of place. If this happens, the
needle will hit the hook or bobbin case basket
causing damage.
Correcting loop lift or needle distance timing
If a correction to loop lift or needle distance timing is necessary, the bobbin case basket must first be
rotated down.
NOTE
:
Why must the basket be rotated down?
With the bobbin case basket in the normal
position, the basket needle guard may deflect the needle, making it difficult to accurately adjust
the needle distance between the hook and the needle scarf. One can be deceived into thinking
that there is no gap between the hook and needle scarf and that the needle distance is correct. In
actuality the needle is far too close and is rubbing far too hard on the needle guard, thus causing
unnecessary hook noise and wear.
To rotate the bobbin case basket down
1.
If the clamp is still in place from the check, remove the clamp.
2.
Raise the needle up out of the hook, basket passing window, and needle plate hole.
NOTE
: The basket needs to be rotated down to accurately set hook to needle distance. After the
stop finger is moved away from the basket, hold the basket in place when turning the hand wheel
to prevent the needle from hitting the basket.
