Maintenance
This chapter provides information about maintaining your DS600 system.
Back Up Files
You should back up your files on a regular basis.
As you work with your system, you create work files that are typically saved to your hard drive. You
should make a copy of these files to use as a back up in case your hard drive stops functioning properly.
You can use a network connection or an external CD/DVD writer to back up your system.
Defragment Hard Drive
You should defragment your hard drive regularly. Select Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Disk Defragmenter to open the utility included with the operating system. Follow the instructions
included in the operating system online help.
System Restore
The restore process returns your system to the original factory settings.
Before you start the restore process, back up all of your files. See Back Up Files (on page 24) for details.
The restore process completely overwrites the hard drive that contains your system files. Any additional
media drives in your system are not overwritten.
Recovery Solutions
Recovery Solutions, by PC Angel, gives you multiple options to restore your system back to a working
state in the event that it has encountered problems. Using the simplest method, a non-destructive
media-less recovery solution will get your system working properly within seconds. Please use this
section of the manual as a resource in the event that you need to recover your system due to software
and OS related problems or hard drive failure.
Note:
In the event of a hard drive failure you must have created backup media.
