Appendix A: Laser Safety Guidelines
2. Ensure that only authorized, trained personnel use optical test
equipment during installation or servicing.
3. Turn off all laser sources before scanning a fiber with an optical test
set.
4. Keep all unauthorized personnel away from the immediate area of
the optical fiber systems during installation and service.
For guidance on the safe use of optical fiber communication systems in
the workplace, consult
ANSI Z136.2, American National Standard for
Safe Use of Lasers in the U.S., or outside the U.S., IEC-60825, Part 2 .
