1.7.5 RS-422/RS-485 Speciﬁcations

The 8099 has balanced RS-485 line drivers and receivers that provide RS-422

and RS-485 compatible signals. The line drivers and receivers are designed

to operate with up to 1200 meters of twisted-pair cable. The transmitter can

be set for continuous on operation or it can be tristated when not transmitting.

Hardware handshaking is ignored when RS485 is enabled.

Modes

Transmitter always on (RS485 Mode Off) or

tristated when not transmitting (RS485 mode On)

Transmit +5 Vdc differential for binary 0 or On

Levels

-5 Vdc differential for binary 1 or Off

Receive

±0.2 Vdc minimum, ±25 Vdc maximum,

Levels

differential or single-ended input with other input line

biased at mid-range.

Signals

SD, RD, RS, CS, RR and TR signal pairs

(SD and RD only when RS485 mode On)

Termination Internal Pullup, termination and pulldown resistor

Network network available on serial connector.
