Running an Ad Hoc Assessment Scan
Introduction
You can run an ad hoc scan with the default settings, or you can customize which checks
to run and other scanning parameters.
Procedure
To run an ad hoc assessment scan:
1. On the SiteProtector navigation pane, expand the Site and the groups in the site until
you locate the group on which to run an assessment scan.
Note:
By default, newly discovered assets are added to this group.
2. Right-click the group, and then select Scan from the pop-up menu.
Note:
You can start a scan from a tab with any view except for a Policy view.
3. Select Network Enterprise Scanner/Ad-Hoc Scan , and then click OK .
4. Select Adhoc Scan Control on the navigation pane.
5. In the Ad Hoc Assessment section, select the Perform one-time assessment scan of
this group check box.
6. Type a Job name to identify the job when it appears in the Command Jobs window.
7. If you want the scan to run only during your scheduled scanning windows, select the
Run only during open assessment windows .
8. If you want to ensure that a discovery scan has finished before the assessment scan
starts, select the Wait for discovery scan to complete before scheduling assessment
scan check box.
Note: Use this option if you define discovery and assessment scans to follow each
other. The option ensures that the discovery scan has identified all assets in the group
before the assessment scan runs.
9. Select a perspective in the Perform one-time scan from this perspective (Network
location) list if you want to scan the group from a perspective other than the default.
Important: You must have assigned an agent to the group in the ESM policy.
10. Click Assessment on the left pane.
11. Configure the policy the same way as you would configure the background
Assessment policy. (See “Defining Assessment Details Introduction (Assessment
Policy)” on page 100.)
12. Click OK .
The ad hoc assessment scan appears in the Command Jobs window.
