Ventilation
Provide appropriate ventilation to conform to health, safety, and environment standards. The American
Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHREA) recommends a minimum of
34.2 cubic meters per hour (20 cubic feet per minute) per person of outdoor air make-up during human
occupancy.
To comply with the most stringent state Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA)
guidelines (California), ensure that the printer area meets the following ventilation requirements:
1. If the printer room has a volume greater than 1 000 m
³
(35 315 f
³
) for each InfoPrint Color 100
installed, a minimum outdoor air exchange of 1 300 m
³
/h (765 f
³
/m) per printer is required. For room
temperatures exceeding 26°C (79°F), the fresh air exchange rate must be increased.
2. If the printer room has a volume smaller than 1 000 m
³
(35 315 f
³
) for each installed InfoPrint Color
100, or if the air exchange rate and temperature requirements cannot be met, you must install a
ventilation system. The ventilation system must provide active local exhaust from the printer to the
outside of the building.
IBM recommends that you locate and install a ventilation system with 6 inch (15.25 cm) tubing to connect
to the exhaust air collector installed by the service representative. Refer to Figure 2 on page 12, or position
3 in Figure 10 on page 19. Exhaust air from three cooling fans at the top of the printer fixed tower and the
fan on the paper supply cover is routed through hoses to an exhaust air collector. Your exhaust system will
attach to this exhaust air collector at the top of the printer. A 6.3 inch (16 cm) diameter, 33 foot (10 m)
length hose is supplied with the air collector to attach to your ventilation system. A fan or blower should be
installed in the exhaust duct to assist in moving printer exhaust air to the outside air. Your exhaust system
must provide a minimum air flow rate of 750 m
³
/h (441 f
³
/m) for each installed InfoPrint Color 100 printer.

The InfoPrint Color 100 acoustic levels do not exceed 71 dB sound pressure and 7.1 bels sound power in
either standby or operating modes.
Lighting
Avoid intensive ultraviolet (UV) sources such as direct sunlight. Fluorescent lighting at normal levels is
permitted. Excessive amounts of UV may cause premature failure of the printer drums.
