• All the DIMMs installed in a bank must be the same size, speed, type, and
technology. You can mix compatible DIMMs from various manufacturers.
• All the banks do not have to contain DIMMs of the same size, speed, type, and
technology. You can mix compatible DIMMs from various manufacturers.
• The memory board contains 16 DIMM connectors and supports 4-way memory
interleaving.
To use the 4-way memory interleaving technology in your server, you must install
DIMMs in all four connectors in each populated bank.
• Install only 3.3 V, 168-pin, 8-byte, 100 MHz, PCI, PC100-322-622R, registered
synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) DIMMs with error
correcting code (ECC). Only 100 MHz, 72-bit, registered, synchronous DIMM
memory is supported for the 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB DIMMs.
• Installing or removing DIMMs changes the configuration information in the
server. Therefore, after installing or removing a DIMM, you must save the new
configuration information using the Configuration/Setup Utility program. See
the User’s Reference on the xSeries Documentation CD for more information.
To install a memory module:
1. Review the information in “Safety” on page v.
2. Turn off the server and remove the power cords.
3. Remove the top cover.
4. Remove the memory-board assembly from the server.
5. Select the connectors in which you want to install the DIMMs.
6. Install the DIMMs in the connectors.
7. Replace the memory-board assembly in the server.
8. Install the top cover.
9. Connect all cables and power cords.
