 SAFETY  INSTRUCTIONS

 Preliminary  notes

Improper of maintenance by the operator may result in da-
mages and personal injury. To reduce the likelihood of acci-
dents, follow these safety instructions.
1.   Use your Verticut only after reading this manual.
2.   Never allow children to operate the machine or adults to

operate it without proper instructions.

3.   The operator is liable for any damages caused to others

whilst using the Verticut. Keep everyone, especially chil-
dren and pets, away from the area where it is being used.

4.   Familiarise yourself with the controls ; particularly how to

stop the engine.

Before operating

1.   Remove stocks, stones, wire and any other debris which

might be picked up and thrown by the blades.

2.   Wear long trousers and heavy shoes. Do not operate the

machine whilst wearing sandals or tennis shoes or wearing
clothes which could catch on moving parts.

3.   Petrol is highly infl ammable :

- Use a suitable container.

- NEVER fi ll the tank when the engine is running or hot.

- NEVER smoke whilst handling fuel.

- Always fi ll the tank outdoors, using a funnel.

- Wipe up any spilled petrol.

Whilst operating

1.   The use of your Verticut  requires care and attention.

Therefore concentrate on what you are doing and always
maintain a secure footing.

2.   Make sure that all safety components are mounted.
3.   Turn the engine off  before adjusting working depth of bla-

des.

4.   When using the Verticut without grass catcher, the chute

door must be closed in order to protect the operator from
fl ying debris.

5.   NEVER remove the chute door, which is designed for your

protection. If damaged, replace it before using the machi-
ne again.

6.   When using the machine with grass catcher, turn off  the

engine removing the bag to empty it.

7.   If the chute is clogged, turn the engine off , wait for the bla-

des to stop, disconnect high tension wire from spark plug
and remove the obstruction with a stick.

8.   Keep face, hands and feet away from the rotors when the

engine is running.

9.   Maintain a safe distance until the engine and blades have

stopped.

10. Before lifting the machine in order to move it from one pla-

ce to another, turn the engine off  and wait until all motion
of the blades has stopped.

11. NEVER leave the machine with the engine running. Turn off

the engine, wait for all moving parts to stop and discon-
nect high tension wire from park plug.

12. NEVER touch the engine when it is running or shortly after

it has stopped because you  could burn yourself !

13. NEVER run the engine in a closed area as the fumes are

poisonous.

14. For food, safe results :

- Use the machine in daytime or with adequate lighting

GB

and when grass is dry.

- If possible, avoid working on slopes.

Maintenance

1.   Before your Verticut is services or adjusted, turn off  the en-

gine, wait for all moving parts to stop and disconnect high
tension wire from spark plug. Keep the high tension wire
away from the spark plug in order to avoid accidental star-
ting.

2.   Frequently check that all nuts, screws and bolts are cor-

rectly tightened.

3.   Always check the blades before using the machine. If you

fi nd signs of wear or damage, have them checked by your
authorised IBEA dealer.

- A badly damaged or cracked blade must be replaced im-
mediately as it is dangerous.

- The use of your Verticut with even one blade missing can
seriously damage the machine.

4.   Always empty the fuel tank if you have to tilt the machine

during maintenance.

5.   To reduce potential fi re hazards, make sure the machine is

free of excessive grass, leaves oil, etc.

6.   After striking a foreign object or if the machine vibrates

abnormally, stop engine and remove wire from spark plug.
When all moving parts have stopped, check for damage
and make any necessary repairs before using the machine
again.

7.   The grass bag must always be in good condition ; therefore

check it before use to assure the bag is not torn or worn.
Replace a defective grass bag.

8.   DO NOT try and regulate the rpm of the engine yourself.

If necessary, have the engine adjusted by your authorised
IBEA dealer.

9.   Allow engine to cool before storing the machine in an en-

closed space such as a garage or storage shed. Do not store
the mower where there is the possibility of fl ames or sparks
setting alight any residual fuel tank.

10. At the time of manufacture your Verticut conformed to

safety standards. To ensure optimum performance and
continued safety, use only original IBEA replacement parts.
Perform only those maintenance instructions described in
this manual. If major repairs are ever needed or if assistan-
ce is desired, contact an authorised IBEA dealer.
