Activesync Troubleshooter
ActiveSync 4.5 also includes a troubleshooter utility that scans your computer and device to
identify problems and offers information and corrective actions to solve them.
Desktop Firewall Applications
Firewall applications are designed to block network traf fi c and secure the desktop PC from
incoming network connections. Since ActiveSync utilizes TCP ports for data transfer with
Windows Mobile powered devices, you may need to explicitly allow this traf fi c to be un-blocked
by certain desktop fi rewall applications. To do so, you must add ActiveSync application
processes into the fi rewall’s exception list. Please refer to the documentation provided with
your speci fi c fi rewall.
If you need to open ports manually in your fi rewall, you will need the following port numbers:
990: open inbound TCP port
999: open TCP port
5678: open TCP port
5679: open outbound UDP port
5721: open inbound TCP port
26675: open TCP port
The Sync Setup wizard on the PC is also capable of con fi guring and customizing the device
settings. In fact, you can even use it to install or uninstall programs and themes on the device
(at the PC, click Tools, and then click Add/Remove Programs).
