14 Fault Modes
14.1 Introduction
This section describes the fault modes of the dopplex Ability. The descriptions are separated into those faults
describing the nature of the fault to the user in which the user has the ability to correct the cause of the fault,
and those given as a coded internal fault message in which contact with Huntleigh Service or the user’s EBME
may be required.
Note: This information applies to Ability firmware versions 2.224 and later.
14.2 Descriptive Faults
Descriptive faults at present apply to test-specific faults. When a fault is encountered, the current ABPI test is
aborted and the relevant fault screen displayed. Each fault screen features a ‘tick’ icon above the centre key the
pressing of which returns the user to the main screen and no test results are provided.
14.2.1 Check Cuffs
This message is displayed when a leak is detected during the early stages of the test. The leak detection is only
active after the initial inflation and ‘top-up’, during the PVR waveform collection stage highlighted in Figure 1 -
Timing of Leak Detection.
Although this fault can arise from any cuff chamber, due to the necessity to replace the entire cuff assembly,
narrowing the source of the leak to the specific cuff chamber at fault is not required, and Table 2 shows the
possible leak sources. Due to the design of the pneumatic system, differentiating between arm occlusion
chambers is not possible and when the user is presented with the ‘Arm Cuffs’ message, at present both arm
cuffs would require replacement (from firmware version 2.235 a cuff leak test is incorporated that allows
individual cuffs to be tested for leaks).
