12 Performance Verification
As the dopplex Ability employs unique systolic pressure measurement technology, test phantoms or other
instruments to confirm correct operation of standard blood pressure equipment are not compatible. However,
by performing the following tests, the integrity of the Ability pneumatic channels can be verified, and provided
that the UUT can also be successfully calibrated, then there is a high level of confidence that it will perform
correctly in clinical use.
12.1 Flow Test
The flow test ensures that the pneumatic system is operating correctly, and is free from leaks and obstructions.
To perform the flow test, you will need the following accessories, obtainable from Huntleigh Healthcare, Service
department:
•
SP-771542 Ability test bottles (inc. blanking plug)
•
Ability Data Viewer software
•
Interface cable USB V1.1 type A to USB mini 5 pin type B
Procedure:
1. Using the USB lead, connect the Ability to a PC with Ability Data Viewer software installed.
2. Click on the icon and start Ability Data Viewer.
3. Connect the Ability unit to the mains supply, switch on, and navigate to the service menu (PIN code
5315)
4. In the service menu, select Flow Test and press accept (tick)
5. Connect the test bottles to the right arm cuff connector (red)
6. Connect the blanking plug to the left arm cuff connector (yellow)
7. Press start, the flow test will begin.
8. When prompted by the display, move the test bottles to the left arm cuff connector (yellow), and the
blanking plug to the right arm cuff connector (red).
9. Press start, the flow test will continue.
10. When prompted by the display, move the test bottles to the right ankle cuff connector (black) and
disconnect the blanking plug (it will not be required for the remainder of the test).
11. Press start, the flow test will continue.
12. When prompted by the display, move the test bottles to the left ankle cuff connector (green).
13. Press start, the flow test will continue.
14. The flow test will complete, and the message “Calculating Results will be displayed for a few seconds,
followed by the results.
15. The test results appear on the display as a list from 1 to 24. Press the left or right softkeys to scroll
down or up through the list as required.
16. To print the results via the Ability printer, press accept (tick) softkey, then the right hand softkey (print).
17. To Exit from the flow test and return to the service menu (all data is erased), press accept (tick) softkey.
18. On flow test completion, the results are also passed to the Ability Data Viewer software package. This
compares the results with pass/fail criteria, and reports either a PASS or FAIL for each test parameter.
