the latter. Throw the ball about 50 cm above your head. Make sure you do
not throw it towards the front. Glance towards the top while throwing so
that you can catch a glimpse of the turn-around point. While catching, try
not to monitor yours hands. You should throw from your lower arm or
wrist. Try to give the ball a slight angular momentum so that it is suspen-
ded stably in the air. Make diligent efforts to fine tune your throwing tech-
nique until you can steer the ball precisely where your hand isocated.
Refrain from lunging or making abrupt upper body moves. Practice this
step using both hands as alternate throwing hands. The goal is to use the
same move regardless which hand you are throwing with.
Step 2
Now you are ready to continue with two balls. Take one ball in each hand
and throw one in the air with your right hand. Once it has reached its
peak, throw the other ball. Catch the first ball with your left hand, the
second with your right. Once you have mastered the step beginning on
the right, start exercising with it coming from the left. As soon as you are
ready to move on to the third step you will have accomplished a whole lot
already: you will have the skill to master all fundamental juggling moves.
For this final step you will definitely need the most time, but you will be
able to juggle with three balls at a time! It is an enthralling feeling to ma-
ster one’s first cascade. Go for it !!!
Step 3
You are now ready to give three balls a dry. Hold the additional third ball
in your strong hand Throw this ball first. Once it reaches its zenith, throw
the next ball from your weaker hand. While you are throwing the final ball
you will have to catch the one you threw first. In other words, you must
never hold more than one ball in either hand. Doing this step multiple
times in a sequential mode creates a beautiful flowing juggling motion.
Tips:
• To catch the balls, you may reach slightly towards the Top but never
above your chest height.
• Bring a sense of rhythm to your movements. For instance, start each
throw with the call-out >go-go-go< or any other term that gets you
going.

Find a place where you will have ample space to practice. There should
be a clearance of at least 3 m between you and any objects or ceiling
above you and a clearance of at least 4 m around you that is free of ob-
jects. No one should be in the clearance area around you while you are
playing, to make sure that you do not stumble over them and do not get
injured. This is particularly important since it will be difficult for you to
visually check around you to determine what or who you are moving to-
wards.

Before you begin, always remember that it takes a lot of exercise and
patience to acquire the skills that will allow you to present your very own
circus act! Therefore it is important that you give yourself enough time to
really practice the first steps. If a ball happens to fall down, keep on jugg-
ling and have lots of fun! If you have one of those days where nothing
seems to work, it is probably best to wait a day and then try again. As
long as you are still a newcomer, always start with the first two basic
exercises and soon the fundamental movements will become routine.
Even professional jugglers still use these exercises as a warm-up tech-
nique. The juggling figure shown here is called “the cascade”. There are
numerous other techniques and instructions for many of them can be
found on the Internet.

Please always hold the balls in a 90-degree angle to your body. The balls
in the drawings on the right have been drawn in the reverse order to make
them easier to recognize. Take on a relaxed position and make sure you
are standing on level ground. Secure your position by placing your feet
wide enough apart. While performing the exercises, try to keep your legs
and upper body in as solid a position as possible. Take one ball into your
right hand. Throw it in the direction of your other hand and catch it with
