Using the AUX Port as Backup Console Port
When the console port is faulty, you can use the AUX port as the backup console port to
complete router configuration as follows:
1)
Make sure that the work mode of the AUX port is set to flow before the console port
fails.
2)
Configure the console port as follows:
# Configure password-based authentication for users logging into the device through AUX port.
<Sysname> system-view
[Sysname] user-interface aux 0
[Sysname-ui-aux0] authentication password
# Set the password to
123456
.
[Sysname-ui-aux0] set authentication password simple 123456
# Configure users to access commands of level 3 after successful login.
[Sysname-ui-aux0] user privilege level 3
[Sysname-ui-aux0] quit
# Save the configurations.
[Sysname] save
3)
Power off the router, connect the RJ-45 connector of the console cable to the AUX
port, and then connect the DB-9 (female) connector to the serial port of the
configuration terminal.
4)
Power on the router.
The AUX port can only be used normally after user level and password are configured.
The AUX port can work in the flow or protocol mode. The AUX port can be used as the
backup console port only when it works in the flow mode. The AUX port works in the flow
mode by default.
Password Loss
If you have lost the BootWare password, user password, or super password, refer to “Dealing
With Password Loss” in Chapter 6 “Maintaining Software”.
