TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS
To perform the oil alert indicator check, the engine must be
connected to a battery and the engine switch must be in the ON
position.
ENGINE WILL NOT START
Possible Cause
Correction
Fuse burnt out.
Replace fuse (p. 13).
After replacing fuse, turn the engine
switch to the ON position once again.
Fuel, engine oil, spark
plug, etc.
Check the
BEFORE OPERATION
CHECKS
(p. 5).
Engine oil level low.
Fill with the recommended oil to the
proper level (p. 9).
ECM, sensors, etc.
Take engine to your servicing dealer,
or refer to shop manual.
Battery discharged.
Recharge battery.
Choke closed.
Move choke lever to OPEN position
unless the engine is warm.
Engine switch OFF.
Turn engine switch to ON position.
Out of fuel.
Refuel (p. 8).
Bad fuel; engine stored
without treating or
draining gasoline, or
refueled with bad
gasoline.
Drain fuel tank and carburetor (p. 14).
Refuel with fresh gasoline (p. 8).
Spark plug faulty, fouled,
or improperly gapped.
Gap or replace spark plug (p. 12).
Spark plug wet with fuel
(flooded engine).
Dry and reinstall spark plug.
Fuel filter restricted,
carburetor malfunction,
ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.
Take engine to your servicing dealer,
or refer to shop manual.
