Special tips for log cabins
t
It can occur that a crack appears between some of the wall beams. You can correct this by tapping softly (use a rubber hammer)
on the wall beams above the crack.
t
If you want to fit any shelves, you can fix these to 2 wall beams at a maximum. However, it is better to put a separate rack or
cupboard against the wall (working of wood!). Keep 15 cm free space between the upside of the rack or cupboard and the roof
beams.
t
In case that your log cabin has a front extension, the guttering’s drainpipe should be placed at the front wall.
t
Check the anchorage regularly, whereas it must be kept at the right tension.
3. Consumer advice for placing a foundation for log cabin, garden building
or outdoor cabin
General
A good foundation always need to be sturdy, level and flat. This is a matter of utmost importance, because it may prevent problems
in the future. You have to take care yourself of the foundation and the anchorage! Read our advice before realising.
Tips

Consider eventual roof overhang (the size of the roof is often bigger than de size of the foundation).
t
You might not be able to reach a wall for treatment after the assembly. Therefore think of the treatment beforehand.
t
Before placing the foundation, cables for electricity and service pipes need to be laid out.
t
Prevent sagging of the foundation.
t
Always place a log cabin, garden building or outdoor cabin slightly higher than the surface level. This prevents flooding.
t
Ensure that the outside of the foundation is equal to the outside of the base (to prevent that water enters inside). This makes the
drainage of rain water easier.
t
Your log cabin, garden building or outdoor cabin has to be properly anchored against stormy weather conditions.
The foundation for a log cabin or a garden building can be made of:

Concrete
Throwing a concrete floor is preferred. First place a soldering trellis on the floor to prevent cracks in the concrete floor.

Concrete floor tiles
Place the concrete floor tiles (big size, 60x60 for instance), in a bed of gravel sand of 20 cm width and press well. Place floor tiles
all around (on their smallest side) in order to keep the gravel at its place.

Sleepers
Use straight and smooth sleepers of exotic wood or concrete. Make sure the sleepers cannot overturn, and that there is enough
filling on the underside. Fasten the sleepers at the inside of the foundation by using a picket to prevent moving.
Size of the foundation
In the assembly instructions of the log cabin or garden building, you find the size of the foundation beams (base). You need these

Log cabin with veranda
If you have a log cabin with a veranda, a foundation under the veranda floor is necessary. If you place a wooden floor in your log
cabin, you also need to make a foundation. The foundation for the floor (as well as the veranda floor) must be parallel to the front
side and back side of the log cabin (the foundation beams must be laid with 60 - 70 cm space in between).
Concrete blocks as foundation for the posts of your outdoor cabin
For a good foundation and good anchorage of the posts of your outdoor cabin, we advice concrete blocks of 20x20 cm. You can
throw these yourself or you can buy concrete blocks ready for use and dig them in. Prevent sagging of the concrete blocks, depen-
ding on the type of soil. The right place of the concrete blocks depends on the exact position of the posts. See the foundation plan of
your outdoor cabin (find it in the package or visit www.hillhout.com). Hillhout offers bolt-down steel supports (on a bottom plate) for
anchoring the posts to the concrete blocks. You can eventually order these supports together with your outdoor cabin.
Foundation for a wooden floor in your log cabin, garden building or outdoor cabin
If you make a wooden floor in your log cabin, garden building or outdoor cabin, a foundation is necessary. A flat and level (!!)
