6 Safety remarks
Never place the gas outlet nozzle of the HEBU APC probe directly on the tissue during
gas activation! Danger of gas emphysema!
Do not guide the gas outlet nozzle vertically over the tissue during activation. An angle
of around 45° to the tissue has proven successful.
Do not blast argon into the vessel system. Danger of embolism!
Always hold the applicator end within the visual range of the endoscope during
activation! Never activate the coagulation stream without visual inspection!
Endogenous gas in the gastrointestinal tract can be combustible or explosive.
Before any electrosurgical application, clear any such gases in suspected areas by
flushing with argon gas (e.g. by activating the beamer on the HF output setting "0" or
using the purge function "C/Argon Flow" of the beamer).
Argon plasma can ignite combustible materials (e.g. the plastics used in the
endoscope or tubes). This can result in a hazard, particularly in oxygen-enriched
environments!
The distal end of the probe must project by at least 10 mm from the working channel of
the endoscope. There are marking rings provided at the distal probe end for
orientation purposes.
Do not introduce oxygen or other combustible gases of fluids before and during
application in the tracheo-bronchial system.
During protracted beamer applications, carry out alternating ventilation!
In the event of laparoscopic applications, the argon gas flow brings about an increase
in intra-abdominal pressure. The use of electronic pressure release-controlled CO
2
insufflators is recommended.
During activation, monitor intra-abdominal pressure and where necessary release
pressure through the trocar!
For endoscopic applications with video endoscopes, do not direct the argon gas jet
towards the camera chip.
Protect the probe from mechanical overloading. Ensure that the hose does not kink!
As high HF voltage levels are required for gas ionization, pay particular attention to
ensuring that the electrical insulation of cables and applicators is undamaged.
Electrode wires which project out from the flexible tube at the distal end can result in
mechanical damage to tissue
