ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
the cable and extension cables should be implemented in a 6-wire configuration. Please
note the operating instructions for your amplifier system in this case. All C9Cs ordered
with fitted plugs have a 6-wire configuration from the plug. See the Specifications section
10 on page 29 of this manual for the connector pin assignment. Please remember that an
extension cable must have six wires. Such an extension will have no influence on the
measurement. If you have selected the “Sub HD” option (for QuantumX) as the connector
in combination with the “TEDS” option, you must extend with eight wires as in this case a
so-called “one-Wire TEDS” is mounted, and this requires an additional wire.
With extension cables, ensure that the connection is perfect with a low contact resistance
and continue to connect the cable shield extensively. Note that the protection class of
your force transducer will decrease if the cable connection is not tight and water can pen
etrate the cable. Transducers can be irreparably damaged and fail in these circum
stances.
8.1.3
EMC protection
Electrical and magnetic fields can often induce interference voltages in the measuring
circuit. Please comply with the following points:
S
Use shielded, low-capacitance measurement cables only (HBM cables fulfill both con
ditions).
S
Do not route the measurement cable parallel to power lines and control circuits. If this
is not possible, protect the measurement cable with metal tubing
S
Avoid stray fields from transformers, motors and contact switches.
S
Note that compensating currents flowing through the cable shield can cause major
interference. If the sensor and your evaluation unit are at different electrical poten
tials, an electrical connection with very low resistance must be provided.
S
Connect all the devices in the measurement chain to the same protective conductor.
S
Always connect the cable shield extensively on the amplifier side, to create the best
possible Faraday cage.
8.1.4
TEDS transducer identification
A TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) chip allows you to store the rated outputs of a
sensor in a chip in accordance with IEEE 1451.4. The U9C can be supplied with TEDS,
which is then mounted in the connector housing, connected and supplied with data by
HBM before delivery. If the force transducer is ordered with TEDS, the characteristics
values from the test record are stored in the TEDS chip and, if an additional DAkkS (na
tional accreditation body for the Federal Republic of Germany) calibration is ordered, the
calibration results are also stored in the TEDS chip.
The TEDS chip is executed in a zero-wire configuration for all connector variants. The
connector wiring is then such that the force transducer can be connected to the HBM
amplifier with a Zero-Wire configuration. Please note that for TEDS to function correctly,
all extensions must be executed in a 6-wire configuration.
