APPENDIX C - INSTALLING OPTION
CARDS (MODEL HI6850)
The HI6850 Application Controller can be equipped with option cards. Installing these cards
requires you to gain access to the unit’s motherboard inside the enclosure.
1. Before opening the unit, disconnect the power cord from the power supply.
2. Place the side of the unit on an anti-static work mat.
3. Remove the two black thumbscrews on the rear of the unit that secure the front panel
display to the enclosure. Remove the four Phillips screws (one at each corner of the
backplate).

4. Lift the backplate from the enclosure and set it aside.
5. Install the option cards. For reference, see sections 3.4 and 3.5.
a. Carefully align the option card connector with the connector on the controller
motherboard.
b. Press down gently on the option card until it is seated in the motherboard connector.
c.
Use the screws provided in the option kit to secure the option card to the threaded
standoffs on the motherboard.
6. After the cards are installed, position the backplate over the enclosure and secure with
the screws you removed in step 3.
7. Make connections to the option card as required.
