10-5-2 GATE MODE DESCRIPTION
(1) NORMAL
When a single sweep unit (M10912 fast single sweep unit series or M10913 slow
single sweep unit series) is used, this mode is capable of cutting false signals that
occur due to incident light generated during the return sweep period. (This operation
to cut false signals is referred to as “return cut” hereafter.)
If using the M10911 synchroscan unit series then the gate will remain open. (To cut
out the returning light when a synchroscan unit is used, use the M10914-02 shift
blanking unit or the M10915 synchronous blanking unit.)
In NORMAL mode, the maximum gate repetition frequency is 10 kHz. When the
M10913 is used, it allows operation at higher than the sweep repetition frequency of
10 kHz, but the gate will not function in this case. However, if the M10914-01
horizontal blanking unit is installed in the horizontal plug-in unit, then the “return cut”
function works. In this case, the maximum repetition frequency for the “return cut
”
function is 4 MHz.
Besides the above, caution is also needed when using the dual time base extender
unit M10916 with the single sweep unit M10912 or M10913. When the sweep time
range on the M10916 is set below 100 μs, then horizontal blanking w
ill not function
but “return cut” is performed by the MCP gate.
If the horizontal time range is set
higher than 200 μs
and a sweep repetition
frequency surpasses 10 kHz, then “return cut” can no longer be performed
. When
the horizontal sweep is enabled, the maximum repetition sweep frequency for the
M10913-01 is limited to 2 MHz. However, if the sweep is synchronized with the input
light repetition frequency and “return cut” is not necessary, then the maximum
repetition sweep frequency can be changed to 4 MHz. In that case please contact us
for a consultation.

The timing chart below shows the case when using a single sweep unit and set to a
repetition frequency of 10 kHz or lower.
No special trigger signal is required in NORMAL mode. Vertical sweep is performed
by input of a sweep trigger, and the gate function works automatically at the timing
when this sweep is finished. The gate opens automatically when the sweep waveform
(sweep voltage) returns to the previous state.
