Overview
H3C MS8000 (hereinafter referred to as the MS8000) is a media switch server developed by Hangzhou
H3C Technologies Co., Ltd. (H3C). It is an important component in the H3C IP video surveillance
system (iVS) solution. Figure 1-1 shows its appearance.

Features
Forwarding and distribution of real-time audio and video steams
The MS8000 receives unicast/multicast media steams from encoders and forwards replica of the
streams to decoder client for replay. Up to 1024 copies for each stream are supported.
The MS8000 can be deployed flexibly as needed, enhancing the iVS solution.

Placed at the iVS edge, the MS8000 acts as a gateway to transform the multicast media streams to
unicast media streams.

Placed inside the iVS, the MS8000 is to distribute unicast media streams.
VOD of the audio and video history data
The MS8000 is compatible with the all the H3C series of video encoders. It reads the audio and video
history data from the IP SAN (storage area network), and then sends the data in the standard RTP
streams to the decoder client for decryption and replay.
RTSP (real-time streaming protocol) is used for the MS8000 and VOD client to control such operations
as play, pause, forward.
The MS8000 authenticates users that initiate the VOD requests. It obtains data from the IP SAN and
sends it to the legal users. This prevents unauthorized users from accessing the data.
Convenient management through Web interfaces
The MS8000 provides Web-based management, such as software version management,
communication protocol parameter management, and log management, thus facilitating the
maintenance and management of the system.
