4.8 Integrated peripherals Menu
Internal PCI/IDE
The SiS 5598 chipset contains a PCI IDE interface that supports two IDE channels:
Primary (IRQ14) and Secondary (IRQ15). Each channel supports two IDE devices so
the system is capable of supporting a total of four IDE devices. Select Primary,
Secondary, or both to activate chipset IDE interface(s) installed on your system board.
IDE Primary/Secondary Master/Slave PIO
The four IDE PIO (Programmed Input/Output) fields allow you to set a PIO mode (0-4)
for each of the four IDE devices that the onboard IDE interface supports. Modes 0
through 4 provide successively increased performance. In
Auto
mode, the system
automatically determines the best mode for each device.
IDE Primary/Secondary Master/Slave UDMA
Ustra DMA/33 implementation is possible only if your IDE hard drive supports it and
the operating environment includes a DMA driver (Windows 95 OSR2 or a third-party
IDE bus master driver). If your hard drive and your system software both support Ultra
DMA/33, select
Auto
to enable BIOS support.
IDE Burst Mode
Selecting Enabled reduces latency between each drive read/write cycle, but may cause
instability in IDE subsystems that cannot support such fast performance. If you are
experiencing disk drive errors, try setting this value to Disabled. This field does not
appear when the Internal PCI/IDE field, above, is Disabled.
