8.4 Connection
The hose or pipe connections, particularly on the suction side,
must not leak. If hoses are used, a spiral hose must be used on
the suction side to prevent the hose from collapsing due to the
vacuum generated.
If pipes are used, fit flexible connections between pump and
pipes.
Make sure that the pump and its connections are not stressed by
the pipework.
The system suction head must not be greater than the suction
head stated for the pump. The nominal pipe diameter should be
the same as that of the pump ports or larger.
Clogging of the water intake by muddy groundwater can be
prevented by raising the strainer.
9. Electrical connection
The electrical installation should be carried out by an authorised
person in accordance with local regulations and the wiring
diagram in the terminal box cover.
The pump must be fused in the building's electrical installation
and be connected via an external switch.
Check that the supply voltage and frequency correspond to the
values stated on the nameplate.
9.1 Overload protection
Motors with built-in sensors for connection to an external control
circuit are available on request. The sensors are bimetallic
thermal switches or thermistors (PTC).
Thermal switches can be connected directly to an external control
circuit to protect the motor against steady overload (TP 111
according to IEC 34-11). The motor must be equipped with a
protection device for protection against stalling. The thermal
switches are capable of switching 1.5 A at 250 VAC.
The thermistor must be connected to an external amplifying relay
connected to the control circuit. In this case, the motor is
protected against rapid and steady overload (TP 111 according to
IEC 34-11). The thermistors are in accordance with DIN 44 082.
10. Startup
10.1 Priming
Prime the pump by removing the priming plug or via the discharge
port. Fit and tighten the priming plug. Do not forget the seal.
10.2 Checking the direction of rotation
Fill the pump with liquid prior to checking the direction of rotation.
The direction of rotation of the motor/engine must as shown by
the arrow on the pump.
If necessary, change the direction of rotation by interchanging two
phases.
10.3 Starting the pump
Start the petrol or diesel engine in accordance with the operating
instructions of the engine.
10.4 Operation
10.5 Maximum number of starts per hour
Motor smaller than 4 kW: 100.
Other motors:
20.
Do not operate combustion engines continually at full load.
Note
To ensure that the strainer is suspended vertically in
the water, lower the strainer into the water in a wicker
basket or lay the suction hose over a branch.
Warning
Disconnect the power supply to the pump before
removing the terminal box cover and before any
dismantling of the pump.
Caution
When repairing motors incorporating thermal
switches (Klixon), make sure that the motor cannot
start automatically after cooling.
Caution
The pump must be filled with the liquid to be pumped
before startup.
Risk of dry running.

Caution
The pump must only run for a short period.
Caution
Do not start the pump until it has been filled with
liquid.
The pump must not run against a closed discharge
valve.
Warning
The pump must not run against a closed discharge
valve due to the risk of scalding hot water caused by
conversion of motor energy into heat in the pump.
