Operating Instructions
Ground Drive Operation
The gauge wheels each establish the heights of their
respective sections of the planter. A gauge wheel is
mounted on each end of the center section and one on
both the wing sections.
The gauge wheels are also used to supply power for the
input shafts of the transmissions. Drive chains are
driven by the sprockets on the axles of the gauge
wheels. The drive chains are located behind the chain
shields and rotate the input shafts of the
transmissions.
Power is routed through the transmissions to the output
shafts. The output shafts supply power to the row units.
The guide wheels use a standard rubber tire. See “
Hydraulic Drive Operation
The planter has three hydraulic motors , one on the
center section and one on each wing. The hydraulic
motors are connected by chain drives to the drive
shafts for the row units. The three hydraulic motors are
controlled independently.
A gauge wheel is mounted on each end of the center
section and one on both the wing sections.
One of the gauge wheels is also used to determine the
speed of the planter. The gauge wheel is mounted on the
center section and has a shield and a sensor . A
sensor sprocket is mounted on the axle shaft of the
gauge wheel. The sensor reads the speed of the sensor
sprocket (gauge wheel speed).
The planter monitor uses the speed of the gauge wheel
to determine the correct drive speed for the row unit input
shafts. The planter monitor regulates the speed of the
row unit input shafts by increasing or decreasing the flow
to the hydraulic motors.
The guide wheels use a standard rubber tire. See “
