APPENDIX D
Hoot 'N Holler
A bridged circuit used for open voice communications
between multiple locations. These circuits allow
simultaneous transmission and reception to/from all
termination points on the circuit.
Hybrid
AKA-2W/4W termination set. A device used for
impedance matching and interconnection of a 2-wire
circuit to a 4-wire circuit. This function is required
whenever a 2-wire telephone set is connected to a 4-
wire voice channel such as the CELP.
Station
The termination point for a voice circuit, usually a
telephone set.
Transhybrid
Loss (THL)
The attenuation of an analog signal as it passes
through the hybrid from 2-wire in to 4-wire out or from
4-wire in to 2-wire out. Nominal THL is
approximately 3.5 dB through a passive hybrid. Gain
elements in an active can reduce this loss to 0 dB.
Transmission
Level Point
(TLP)
The transmission level point. This value is used to
convert dBm into dB. The dBm minus the TLP is the
dB. When using a 0 dB tone although the dBm will
vary at various points on a circuit the level of the tone
remains to be 0 dB. The TLP is the level or offset at
which a 0 dB signal would be measured.
VF Signal
An analog wave form. The voice signal as opposed to
the E and M leads.
