Operating Modes
Transfer Switch Operation
Prior to automatic operation, manually exercise transfer
switch to verify there is no interference with correct oper-
ation of mechanism. See transfer switch documentation
for procedures.
Generator set will start automatically when mains power
source voltage drops below a preset level. Loads are
transferred to standby power source after the unit starts.
Automatic Sequence of Operation
Utility Failure
If generator set is set to AUTO when mains power fails
(below 156V), a five second (dealer programmable) line
interrupt delay time is started. The engine cranks and
starts if mains power is still gone when timer expires. An
engine warm-up timer is initiated once started. Timer
duration varies depending on whether or not Cold Smart
Start is enabled. The controller will transfer load to gener-
ator set when warm-up time expires.
If mains power is restored (above 190V) at any time from
the initiation of the engine start until generator set is
ready to accept load (warm-up time has not elapsed), the
controller completes start cycle and runs generator set
through normal cool down cycle. However, load will
remain on the mains power source.
Cranking
System goes through five cyclic cranking cycles as fol-
lows:
• 16 second crank
• seven second rest
• 16 second crank
• seven second rest
• three additional cycles of seven second cranks fol-
lowed by seven second rests.
NOTE:
An alarm will be triggered if generator set does
not start after these five attempts.
Mode
Description
MANUAL
•
Will not transfer to generator set if mains power is present.
•
Will transfer to generator set if mains power drops (below 156V for five consecutive seconds—dealer program-
mable) after warm-up.
•
Will transfer back when mains power returns for 15 consecutive seconds (dealer programmable). Engine will
continue to run until removed from MANUAL.
AUTO
•
Will start and run if mains power drops for five consecutive seconds (dealer programmable).
•
Will start an engine warm-up timer (duration varies when
is enabled).
–
Will not transfer if mains power subsequently returns.
–
Will transfer to generator set if mains power is not present.
•
Will transfer to mains power once mains power returns (above 190V) for 15 consecutive seconds (dealer pro-
grammable).
•
Will not transfer to mains power unless mains power returns. The generator set will shut down if OFF button is
pressed or a shutdown alarm is present.
•
Once mains power is returned, the generator set will shut down after one minute cool-down time.
EXERCISE
•
Will not exercise if generator set is already running in either AUTO or MANUAL.
•
During exercise, controller will only transfer if mains power drops during exercise for five seconds (dealer pro-
grammable) and will switch to AUTO.
(000132)
Electrocution. Do not manually transfer under load.
Disconnect transfer switch from all power sources
prior to manual transfer. Failure to do so will result in
death or serious injury, and equipment damage.
