13. After the shot, the coffee will still drip a little. Wait approx. 30 seconds before
removing your filled cup or glass and place it on the warming plate. Additional-
ly, the system needs some time to release pressure in the group head. Remove
the portafilter by turning the portafilter handle to the INSERT position and pulling
the portafilter down. Doing so, do not touch the metal parts of the portafilter and
group head to avoid burns.
14. Turn the portafilter upside down and hit the portafilter on a suitable support to make
the coffee grinds fall out. Then purge the portafilter and filter basket via hot water.
You may use the hot water function of the appliance for this (see: ‘Hot Water’).
15. If you do not wish to prepare another cup of coffee, wait approx. 30 seconds
after the last operation of the appliance. Then press the POWER button to switch
off the appliance. If you wish to leave the appliance unattended or will use the
appliance again for an elongated time period, unplug the appliance.
Note:
With the appliance still turned on, the appliance will keep the brewing tempera-
ture. You can start the next extraction without any waiting time.
Note:
Discard the coffee grinds in domestic waste or compost at least every day to avoid
mouldering. However, do not discard the coffee grinds in the sink, as this could
clog the outlet pipe.
HOT WATER
The HOT WATER function can be used for purging and pre-heating cups and por-
tafilter or for giving off hot water for your drinks (see also: ‘Preparing Long Black—
Usual Coffee’).
WARNING – RISK OF BURNS!
During operation and thereafter, hot steam
and hot water could escape from the hot water / steam wand and the hot water /
steam wand will be very hot during operation and thereafter. Do not hold your hands
on or near the tip of the hot water / steam wand.
Young children must always be
supervised when they are near the espresso machine.
IMPORTANT:
The drip tray must be emptied at least if the red filling level indicator
sticks out of the grill on the drip tray.
Ensure to switch off the appliance (press the
POWER button), before removing the drip tray from the base of the appliance. Other-
wise, hot water could escape, when the appliance releases pressure via the backflush
system. Ensure not to spill the contents of the drip tray.
