3. Before first use, you should operate the appliance without coffee powder to pur-
ge the water system, group head, and hot water / steam wand. Refer to the
following section ‘Purging the Water System’.
PURGING THE WATER SYSTEM
WARNING – RISK OF BURNS!
Do not hold your hands and arms or any
delicate object under or near the group head or hot water / steam wand, while the
appliance is in operation. Hot water and steam can escape and cause severe inju-
ries and damage. Before selecting a function via the selection dial, always ensure
that the drip tray is installed correctly and the hot water / steam wand is pointed to
the drip tray or, what's better, any suitable vessel to avoid scalds and damage.
Note:
During operation and in standby mode, the POWER button may flash occasional-
ly, indicating that the espresso machine keeps the correct temperature of the group
head.
Perform the following steps, when the espresso machine is in standby mode, with the
POWER button illuminated continuously.
1. Ensure that the water tank is filled to the MAX filling level and the drip tray is
completely empty and installed correctly.
2. Place a sufficiently large vessel (e.g. a large mug or bowl) on the drip tray, below
the group head. Turn the hot water / steam wand to ensure that it is pointing into
the vessel, but not placed directly under the group head.
WARNING:
During the purging process, large amounts of hot steam and hot
water will escape from group head and hot water / steam wand. Additionally, hot
water may splash. Keep a sufficient distance to the appliance.
Ensure to empty the
used vessel in time!
While doing so, keep in mind that the contents and vessel will
be hot. Keep an eye on the filling level in the water tank and refill the water tank in
time.
3. Turn the selection dial CLOCKWISE to run hot water through the group head.
After approx. 10 -15 seconds, turn the selection dial back to the vertical position
(OFF).
IMPORTANT:
During the purging process, observe the filling level in the water tank.
Ensure that the filling level will not drop below the MIN marking. Before removing the
drip tray, always wait approx. 30 seconds after the last operation of the appliance,
then press the POWER button to switch off the appliance. Otherwise, hot water could
escape due to the backflush system of the machine. With the drip tray emptied and
re-installed, press the POWER button again.
