Hard Facing Keech Adaptor
The Keech cast steel spear point adaptor
(DDA3S) and/or the SCARITILL spring steel
shank can be hard faced if required.
1.
Prepare the area to be hard faced by
removing any dirt, grease or other
contaminants.
2. Pre-heat the zone to a minimum of 100°C.
Use temperature crayons to indicate
surface temperatures.
3.
Apply hard facing material in the vertical
orientation as shown. Cool down slowly,
away from draughts e.g. lay shank on fire-
brick, place in lime or use heat blanket to
slow down the cooling process.
Note: New hard surface welding products are
being developed and released on a continual
basis. Consult your local welding supplier for
an up to date product listing.
Replacement of Keech Adaptor
If the adaptor is worn or damaged to the ex-
tent that replacement is necessary, the fol-
lowing procedure should be followed.
1.
Grind off worn adaptor at its connection
point with the shank.
2. Grind surfaces to be welded back to bright
steel.
3. Heat both components simultaneously
with an oxy-torch or the like until the
ground metal surfaces change colour to a
dark blue (about 260 to 270°C)
4. Immediately weld the two components
together with a suitable welding wire or
electrode. Refer your local welding sup-
plier.
5.
Cool down slowly, away from draughts
e.g. lay the shank on firebrick, place in
lime or use heat blanket to slow down the
cooling process.
