SuperPro Series Installation Manual
Distribution Panels
The Distribution Panel should be installed in an area with the following characteristics:
•
Accessible location
•
Local power source (have the electrician wire the provided AC outlet)
•
Good grounding source available
•
Out of traffic areas
Other considerations for locating the distribution panel include:
•
Centrally located (reduces cable runs)
•
Dry, protected location
•
Business installations require a secured closet
Multi-Media Receptacles
Multi-Media Receptacles are the wall outlets through which devices such as telephones,
televisions, and computers are connected to the distribution panel.
Carefully planning the placement of the receptacle is very important to the success of
your installation. It would be less than ideal to install a receptacle behind a built-in
bookcase, or at one end of the room and then have to run 30 feet of coax cable along the
floor to plug in the television.
Design Process
Incorporating the following steps into your design process will save time, minimize changes, and
add to customer satisfaction:
•
Determine which electronic devices your customer wants to use. These may include lighting,
window treatments, stereo, television, computers, and video distribution, etc.
•
Determine the type of receptacle needed to meet the requirements of each device.
•
Determine the preliminary locations for the receptacles necessary to service each device.
Remember, in some rooms your customer may choose to install multiple receptacles for the
same device. You will want to use a set of blueprints to identify the preliminary receptacle
locations for each device.
•
Compile a list of receptacles and the services they will provide.
•
Determine the size and location of the distribution panel.
•
Do a walk-through with your customer and explain the planned location of each receptacle
and its purpose.
•
Have your customer sign-off on the plan.
•
Document any changes your customer requests.
The complexity of the installation will determine the degree of interaction with your customer. You
should always take steps to protect yourself by documenting changes and having change orders
signed by the customer.
