Partition Mode

PRIMEPOWER900 partitions have the following two modes:

Physical partitioning (PPAR)

In this partition mode, partitions are configured in units of physical system boards

(PSB).

Extended partitioning (XPAR)

In this partition mode, each system board is divided into four extended system

boards (XSBs), and partitions are configured in units of XSB.

6.2.1

Extended partitioning

Extended partitioning (XPAR) means that each system board is divided into four

extended system boards (XSBs) and partitions are configured in units of XSB.

XPAR divides hardware resources, such as processors, memory, and PCI slots, into

four groups (see

Figure 6.1
