Connecting a UPS unit
Outside of Japan, the UPS information is available from sales representatives, or a
certified service engineer.
In Japan, the following UPS units are the primary ones supported in the main unit:
l
F987 standalone type (200VAC:10kVA/7.5kVA)
The latest UPS information is available from sales representatives, or a certified
service engineer.
For details on connecting a UPS, see the “PRIMEPOWER900 Installation Planning
Manual” (U41297-J-Z816-x-76/C120-H013EN). For information on UPC cables, see
Appendix D, "UPC Connector Specifications."
Be sure to follow the precautions below when connecting a UPS. This description is
intended for use in Japan only.
l
In general, the mean life-span of the battery used in a UPS is about 2 to 3 years
depending on variables such as temperature and number of complete recharge
cycles. The UPS battery must be replaced before the battery approaches its end-of-
life expectancy. Contact a certified service engineer for battery replacement (at
customer expense).
l
The UPS battery charge-holding capacity lessens as the end-of-battery-life
approaches. It is recommended that the battery be replaced before the warranty
date expires, to ensure complete data protection.
l
The UPS is fully charged when it is shipped. However, if the UPS is not used for a
long time, its charge may be reduced due to natural discharge. When installing a
UPS for the first time or reinstalling a UPS after leaving it unconnected for one
month or more, be sure to recharge the UPS. For instructions on recharging your
UPS, see the manual supplied with the UPS.
l
If the UPS is not fully charged, the UPS service period may be shortened.
l
The life-span of a UPS is shortened by operating in high temperatures. Be sure to
keep the temperature of the installation environment 30
°
C (86
°
F) or lower, even
when the main unit is not in operation.
l
Leaving a UPS unconnected for a long time may prevent the UPS from being
recharged, any may render it unusable. To avoid such loss, be sure to recharge a
non-operational UPS for about 24 hours every six months.
l
When frequent power failures have occurred, the UPS life span may be shortened
due to frequent recharging.
l
Verify that the UPS battery is always charged and that the battery recharges after a
power outage.
