If the UPS is not recharged and it is left unused after a power failure has occurred,
the electrodes of the battery may corrode. To avoid this, recharge the UPS within
seven days after a power failure.

An operating UPS activates when a power failure occurs. If the power supply to
the distribution panel is shut down while the system is operating, the shutdown is
recognized as a power failure. The UPS then activates and the battery discharges.
To avoid this, be sure to shut down the UPS before shutting down the distribution
panel.

When selecting a UPS to connect to the main unit, consider the total power
consumption, including the power consumption of the main unit, the file units, and
the hub.

To connect the main unit’s UPS and the UPC connector, prepare a UPS cable and a
branch adapter for UPS cable connection. UPC connectors are provided for two
ports in each unit. Use the connectors to connect the respective UPS unit for each
power system.

E.1.3 On-board LAN port

Each system board has two on-board LAN ports. A unique MAC address is
assigned to each partition. Therefore, all system board LAN ports assigned to the
same partition have the same MAC address. In addition, two LAN ports, built into
the PCI/disk box, are handled the same way as on-board LAN ports, and also have
the same MAC addresses.

To operate the main unit with the SMC, one of the system board LAN ports
configured for the partition must be connected to the corresponding user LAN
SMC port.

If connection with multiple LAN segments is required for adding PCI cards or for
other reasons, select one of the following methods according to the value of “local-
mac-address?” of the OBP environment variables. The default value of “local-
mac-address?” is “false”. For details on OBP environment variables, see
Appendix A, "OBP Environment Variables."

To connect multiple LAN segments in a partition, each system board in a
partition must be connected to a separate LAN segment.
